While Jan Braai says the only time you can have your bread buttered on both sides is with a braaibroodjie, red meat producers believe the best way to beef up a braai is with prime, locally produced mutton or beef.

This as South African’s gear up to celebrate national braai day on the Heritage Day public holiday. 

Chairperson of the Northern Cape Red Meat Producer’s Organisation, James Faber, says he believes locally produced red meat is the best in the world. He says local meat standards are incredibly high:

*James - great meat

Faber adds that red meat is also a very important source of protein, is nutritious and also contains high levels of minerals such as iron. 

He is urging every South African to make sure they celebrate braai day with a lamb or mutton chop or a piece of steak produced in South Africa, saying both of these will be on his menu for the day:

*James - beef or lamb
