The big guns are set for Currie Cup semis | News Article

This weekend will once again see the big guns in South African rugby in action, when they do battle in the semi-finals of the Currie Cup Premier Division.

The Golden Lions secured the 2nd spot in the standings and a home semi-final with a convincing 47-7 drubbing off the Toyota Free State Cheetahs in Ellis Park.

In Cape Town, a spirted Sharks side were made to work hard by a young and inexperienced Western Province outfit to secure 3rd spot in the standings with a 28-20 win over the log-leaders.

Bjorn Basson scored a hat-trick for the Blue Bulls against the Griquas to lead the Pretoria outfit to a 46-12 win and take momentum into their semi against bitter-rivals, Western Province.

Friday night saw the Eastern Province Kings beat Jimmy Stonehouses’ Pumas 26-25 for their first win of the season.

Saturday sees Western Province host the Blue Bulls at Newlands in Cape Town, while the impressive Golden Lions entertain the confident Sharks.
