Griquas and Province remain unbeaten | News Article

The Griquas and Western Province will face each other on Saturday afternoon in the Vodacom Cup in a match which is sure to be a thriller.

Both teams will go into the match in Kimberley after four unbeaten games in the South Section of the competition.

On Saturday afternoon, the Peacock Blues hammered the confident Boland Cavaliers 62-19 in Veldrif, while Western Province made light work of beating the Border Bulldogs 34-6 in Cape Town.

A hat-trick by winger Natabeni Dukisa saw Griquas beat the Cavaliers after leading 20-7 at half-time the Smuts Grounds.

Rocco Jansen scored twice in the first half and although the home team closed the gap to 20-14 early in the second half, Griquas then opened the floodgates and dotted down six times in the second stanzas to record the biggest victory of the round.

Friday evening, the Pumas beat the Leopards 31-23 at Olën Park in Potchesfstroom, while in Pretoria, the Blue Bulls were too strong for the Griffons and they trumped the Purple People Eaters 40-21.

In Bloemfontein, the Toyota Free State XV edged a sprinted Easter Province Kings in a high scoring affair with a 50-45 win.

With only five minutes remaining at the Free State Stadium, the score was still 42-42, but a penalty and try by replacement flyhalf Ludwig Erasmus wrapped up proceedings for the home team’s third win of their campaign in the Southern Section.

Saturday’s clash between the champions, Griquas and Western Province at Hoërskool Diamantveld kicks off at 15:00.
