Spies and Co. heading to Japan | News Article

The mass exodus of South African players to overseas clubs is set to continue at the end of the season with the news that five Bulls stalwart are set to ply their trade in Japan.

Reports out of Pretoria are suggesting that captain Pierre Spies and utility back Francois Hougaard received offers that would be hard to turn down.

The Bulls have confirmed that the duo’s contracts expire at the end of the season, and no new contracts have been signed, while JJ Engelbrecht, Akona Ndungane and Deon Stegmann are also reportedly heading to the Land of the Rising Sun.

On Saturday the Bulls shot to the top of the South African conference in the Super Rugby with a hard fought 35-33 win over the Lions in the Jukskei Derby.

According to Stormers captain and Springbok eighth-man Duane Vermeulen…arrogance lead to his side losing 25-17 to the Toyota Cheetahs and being replace by the Bulls at second in the overall standings.

Both the Cheetahs and the Bulls have a bye this week, when the Stormers tackle the Brumbies in Cape Town and the Lions entertain the Highlanders in Johannesburg.
