Cheetahs target Highlanders lineouts | News Article

The Toyota Cheetahs will be targeting the Highlanders lineout this weekend when the two sides clash in the Super Rugby.

The Cheetahs will be without the services of Sarel Pretorius and Joe Pietersen for the match with the duo both suffering from shoulder injuries and this sees Tian Meyer and Francis Brummer start.

Following their 28-23 loss to the Lions in Johannesburg, Highlanders co-captain Ben Smith said they setpieces is a cause for concern and it’s something they want to remedy this week.

Cheetahs captain, Francois Uys feels that their opponents lineout haven’t been struggling as much as their scrums, and he told OFM Sport that it is however an area of their game they will target.

"If you do put pressure on like with any other team you can maybe force an error here or there like with did with the Stormers, so we’ll definitely try and do the same.

"If there first phase fires and ours doesn’t we’re in for a long day so it’s something we know we’re going to have to be good at," the captain said on their plans for the Highlanders setpiece.

"Our lineouts have been really good. It’s something we worked on quite hard during the off-season and it shows during the games.

"It’s probably our best attacking platform so we’re extremely happy with it," Uys added about the work himself and Carl Wegner have been doing in the lineouts.

The last time the Highlanders played in Bloem was in 2012 when they edged the Cheetahs 36-33.

Saturday’s match at the Free State Stadium kicks off at 19:10.
