De Jager could face the Stormers next week | News Article

Springbok lock, Lood de Jager could return to action for the Toyota Cheetahs next week when the side runs out against the Stormers in Cape Town.

The side could further be boosted with scrumhalf Sarel Pretorius also making a return in the Mother City with the nippy player telling OFM Sport he will be fit again next week.

The tall De Jager has missed the entire season after injuring his elbow during the sides 35-29 win over the Sharks in Durban in their first game of the campaign.

The side has been riddled with injuries this season, but coach Naka Drotské said the imposing De Jager should get a run next week while Willie le Roux is still doubtful.

“Lodewyk de Jager will hopefully be ready for the Stormers next week, if not definitely against the Waratahs the following week.

“With Willie le Roux we’re taking it one week at a time, his injury isn’t recovering as our medical staff thought it would.

“He could also be ready for next week, but the naturally we won’t expose him if he isn’t ready and won’t be able to make the World Cup.

“It is frustrating without the Springboks and Oupa Mohoje will in all likeliness not be playing any further Super Rugby.

Springbok prop Coenie Oosthuizen is also still doubtful and is being accessed by the Springbok doctors.

The Cheetahs face the in-form Lions on Saturday at the Free State Stadium with kick-off at 17:05.

Cheetahs – 15 Clayton Blommetjies, 14 Cornal Hendricks, 13 Francois Venter, 12 Michael van der Spuy, 11 Raymond Rhule, 10 Francois Brummer, 9 Tian Meyer, 8 Willie Britz, 7 Boom Prinsloo, 6 Carel Greeff, 5 Francois Uys (captain), 4 Carl Wegner, 3 Maks van Dyk, 2 Torsten van Jaarsveld, 1 Danie Mienie.
