• 1962: The first part of the South African Press Commission's report is tabled in parliament.
• 1981: Eastern Province Herald reports that for the first time in SA police history three Black policemen were promoted to the rank of lieutenant-colonel and the first Black station commanders were appointed in the Eastern Cape in February.
• 2004: Nazi-hunter Simon Wiesenthal is awarded an honorary knighthood in recognition of a "lifetime of service to humanity."
