Powerful earthquake hits Nepal─── 10:08 Tue, 12 May 2015
Kathmandu - An earthquake of magnitude 7.4 struck Nepal on Tuesday, 17 days after a 7.8 quake in the country last month left more than 9 000 dead and many more homeless.
The latest tremor hit 83 kilometres east of Kathmandu, near the Chinese border, at 0705 GMT, with a magnitude of 7.4, the United States Geological Survey said online.
People were seen running screaming onto the streets of Kathmandu and nearby cities, ravaged by the April 25 quake, while telephone connections were down.
An earlier report by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre put the magnitude at 7.1.
The tremor was felt over the border in the neighbouring Indian state of Bihar, as well as in Delhi.
