Greek finance minister quits─── 08:49 Mon, 06 Jul 2015
Athens - Greece's Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis said on Monday he is resigning, making the announcement in a tweet and on his personal webpage.
"The referendum of July 5 will stay in history as a unique moment when a small European nation rose up against debt-bondage," he said on his webpage.
He said his decision came following the "preference by some Eurogroup participants, and assorted 'partners,' for my... 'absence' from its meetings."
He added that Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras judged this decision "to be potentially helpful to him in reaching an agreement".
"For this reason I am leaving the Ministry of Finance today," Varoufakis added.
