National Police Minister, Bheki Cele.

National Police Minister Bheki Cele is visiting the capital of North West Mahikeng on Saturday.

His visit follows after President Cyril Ramaphosa recently engaged residents during a newly re-established presidential imbizo.

Cele and the management of the South African Police Service (SAPS) will today embark on a ministerial crime prevention imbizo in Mahikeng.

Police Ministry spokesperson Lirandzu Themba said in a statement that the matter stemmed from crime-related issues raised by community members during the Presidential imbizo - hosted by President Ramaphosa - last month.

"It is at this event that Minister Cele committed to return, to not only engage the community further but work with community policing structures and the provincial SAPS management to map a way forward in addressing the residents’ policing and safety concerns. The Imbizo will be be attended by various stakeholders, including the Barolong Boo Ratsidi Traditional leadership,"  Themba adds.

Meanwhile, Cele on Friday introduced the new SAPS National Commissioner, General Sehlahle Masemola.

His announcement followed the exit of the former police commissioner Kehla Sitole, following months of speculations about his relationship with minister Cele.
