Residents of Potchefstroom have been notified of road closures ahead of a movie shoot scheduled to take place over two days.

JB Marks spokesperson Jeanette Tshite said a crew will be shooting a movie called “Don’t Let’s Go To the Dogs Tonight” from Tuesday (19/9) until Wednesday (20/9). During the production of the movie, some of the roads will be temporarily closed while others will be permanently closed.

The movie is based on the memoir of Alexandra Fuller and her family’s lives on a farm in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). After the Rhodesian Bush War ended in 1980, the Fullers moved to Malawi, and then to Zambia. “Don’t Let’s Go To the Dogs Tonight” won the Winifred Holtby Memorial Prize in 2002, was a New York Times Notable Book for 2002 and a finalist for The Guardian's First Book Award for the best regional novel of the year.

Tshite said between 08:00 and 13:00 today, there will be a road closure at Walter Sisulu Street next to the Potchefstroom Town Hall. From 13:00 until 15:00, there will be a road closure at 25 OR Tambo Street, next to the SAPS building. There will also be a temporary road closure – allowing traffic to pass through – at 280 and 284 Beares Avenue between 15:30 and 16:30. Piet Bosman Street will be temporarily closed from 16:30 to 18:30.

On Wednesday (20/9), there will be a police escort for the process trailer at Wilgen Road from 05:30 until 08:00. Police will continue with the escort from 08:00 to 13:30 at Wolmarans Street between Beyers Naudé and Meadow Street. The last escort will take place at Beyers Naude Avenue between 13:30 and 16:30.

Motorists are urged to drive with caution around mentioned areas.
