“This forms part of the Title Deeds Restoration Programme that was launched last year.”

Ten newly built houses and 100 title deeds have been handed over to beneficiaries who waited to receive houses for years in Sasolburg and Deneysville.

Free State Premier Mxolisi Dukwana was assisted by Minister of Human Settlements Mmamoloko Kubayi, and Cogta and Human Settlements MEC Toto Makume in handing over the title deeds on Tuesday (16/4).

“In 2021, when I travelled the province, it became abundantly clear that one of the most critical issues facing our people was the lack of secured land tenure, exacerbated by historical challenges such as asbestos contamination,” said Kubayi.

“Today, we address this pressing need by distributing title deeds for stands to those who have waited for too long, we pledge to return the removal of asbestos from affected areas, a commitment already in motion.”

The day consisted of a walkabout in Sasolburg where there was a site inspection of the Faranani housing project and contractors were in the process of bricklaying.

From there it moved to Deneysville where houses were handed over to beneficiaries and title deeds to residents at the Refengkgotso community hall.

“As we witness the joy on the faces of those receiving their title deeds and houses, we are reminded of the profound impact this work has on individuals and families,” said Dukwana.

“I am so happy. I was the first to sleep inside just after they laid the zinc roof; the windows weren’t even installed yet,” said Deneysville beneficiary Puseletso Sehaule.

Makume thanked Kubayi for the steadfast support and resources offered under the president's and Dukwana's guidance. “It is through collective initiatives like these that we can bring about concrete improvements in the lives of our citizens."
