Stone drawn alongside the Big Easy─── 17:00 Wed, 13 Jan 2016
Newly crowned South African Open champion, Brandon Stone, has been drawn to play with four-time major winner Ernie Els in the opening round of the Joburg Open.
Stone, fired rounds of 71-67-65-71 at Glendower to win the 105th SA Open and reclaim the title for South Africa after England’s Andy Sullivan won it last year.
All eyes will be on the 22-year-old for this week's event which will see the winner qualifying to play in the 145th Open Champion at Royal Troon in mid-July.
While still on a high after his incredible win last week, Stone says it’s another dream come true playing alongside his boyhood hero for the first time.
Stone says playing with the Big Easy is going to be very special.
“I get to play with a guy I’ve grown up watching.
“It’s the first time I’m getting to play with Ernie in a tournament, so it’s going to be really special.
It’s going to be really, really special to watch him play and watch this guy that I’ve grown up idolising make his way around a golf course like this.
“It’s going to be quite unique and quite fun.”
The Joburg Open tees off tomorrow at Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club and runs until Sunday 17 January.
