One in five African children don’t receive required vaccines | News Article

Bloemfontein - One in five African children don’t receive all the basic vaccines they need, including the yellow fever, polio and measles vaccines.

According to the Chairperson of the Pharmaceutical Society in the Free State, Blenn Eagar, it’s negative that vaccination coverage progress in recent years has stalled and it is due to numerous challenges relating to fragile health systems, family and community status, and supply chain, amongst others. He emphasises that more challenges result from community demands that are deterring the public health participation and resources with routine immunisation.

“The theme is Closer Immunisation Gap, Stay Polio Free and draws attention to the need to attend universal immunisation coverage in the African region. It is also a celebration of the importance of polio eradication milestone that has been reached in the African region and the reminder that companies need to remain vigilant to ensure that they stay polio free," says Eager.
