“I never thought of opening a business of helping kids with their school work.”

Parents of the learners who stay in Kudumane, Qwaqwa in the Free State are proud to have Sibongile Sigasa in their area. Her love for the kids is uncountable every day.

Sigas is a teacher but is currently unemployed. She decided to stop worrying about the high rate of unemployment, instead, she brought smiles to the learners by helping them with homework after school.

Speaking to OFM News in an exclusive interview on Wednesday, the Bloemfontein-born Sigasa said helping learners with their school work is not a business, but she does it with passion. "I never thought of opening a business of helping kids with their school work."

‘They struggle to get someone to help with their schoolwork’

She said most of her peers are not always available in the community as most of them are out of the area for different reasons. Some are out looking for jobs while others are working outside. This becomes a serious challenge to the learners because they struggle to get someone to help with their schoolwork. This is where she helps them to complete their tasks.

She works with her mother, Miriam Mohlakoana, a retired teacher to shape the future of the young ones. Sigasa appreciates the presence of her mother in this project since working together for them makes work easier for the learners to succeed at school.

She asked other teachers with extra classes to put the love of working with kids first rather than thinking of generating money. "We must love what we do which is to ensure that we protect our children from using drugs and unnecessary teenage pregnancy, " said Sigasa.
