Bloemfontein - The South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) has handed over their memorandum of grievances to Premier Ace Magashule's office.

The union's Free State secretary, Mokholoane Moloi, says numerous schools were closed today so that teachers could partake in the march, in which some 2 000 people took part. They are unhappy about the way MEC Tate Makgoe runs his department.

“We have been responsible as an organisation. Prior to this march, as well as before, we started the ‘work-to-rule campaign’. We informed all parents and engaged with various school governing bodies about the march. We also requested the schools to issue letters informing parents that on this day members of Sadtu will not be at school, so that it can give parents a chance to exercise their choices on whether it is in the interest of their kids to go to school or not.”
