Parys - A charge of intimidation has been withdrawn against Boeta van der Westhuizen, one of the accused in the Parys murder case.

Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority, Phaladi Shuping, says the case against the eleven, including a 17-year-old boy, a police captain and several family members was postponed until July 15. The men were part of a large group of mostly farmers who allegedly beat Samuel Tjixa and Simon Jubeba to death in January, after the pair allegedly attacked an elderly farmer, Loedie van der Westhuizen. Loedie is related to five of the accused. Shuping says the murder charges remain the same.

“There was a request that the matter be postponed to 15 July. This is to allow the prosecutor to provide the defence attorneys with copies of the dockets. I can also confirm that intimidation charges against accused number one, Boeta van der Westhuizen, has been withdrawn after a successful mediation process,” says Shuping.

Miela Jansen van Vuuren, Cor Loggenberg, Anton Loggenberg, police captain Henk Prinsloo, Fanie Oosthuizen, Loedie's son, Boeta van der Westhuizen, his son Loedie, Wian, Müller and Lodewikus van der Westhuizen, as well as the 17-year-old, are all out on bail.
