Eskom to establish cause of fire at Free State power substation─── 13:49 Wed, 29 Jun 2016
Virginia - Eskom in the Free State says the exact cause of the fire that broke out at a power substation between Welkom and Virginia is still being investigated.
Communications Manager, Adrie Strydom, says a fire broke out at about 06:00 this morning at the station which mainly supplies Virginia. The Matjhabeng Municipality’s fire brigade’s Francois Klaassen told OFM News that the fire was extinguished at around 10:00 this morning.
More than 20 firefighters were involved in containing the fire. At one stage this morning they experienced water shortages and had to fill the tanks on their fire trucks with water in Welkom.
According to Strydom electricity supply was restored to residents of Virginia at about 11:00.
She has apologised for any inconvenience caused as a result and emphasised Eskom’s commitment to good service delivery.
