Projects worth millions delayed in FS─── CATHY DLODLO 15:11 Tue, 05 Jul 2016

Cape Town - Water and sanitation infrastructure projects worth millions in the Free State were delayed after the national Department for Water and Sanitation had to do without more than R1.6 billion of its budget.
According to an answer to a written question in parliament, the department’s request for the roll-over of these funds from the 2014/15 financial year were unsuccessful. This lead to the rescheduling of a number of infrastructure projects in several provinces.
Minister Nomvula Mokonyane said although the non-approval of the rollover had a negative impact on the cash flow for projects, her department had to reprioritise by shifting funds from slow moving projects to those projects affected by non-approval of the rollover to avoid delays and cost escalations.
Some of the projects include R175 million for bucket eradication and R66 million for bulk water infrastructure.
