Hawks warn Bloemfontein community members of an SAPS job scam | News Article

Bloemfontein - The Hawks in the Free State has urged community members in Bloemfontein to be wary of a person posing as a recruitment officer from the South African Police Service (SAPS).

It is reported that a con artist is scamming community members and current SAPS staff by calling and offering them jobs and promotions for a certain amount of money.

Spokesperson for the Hawks in the Free State, Sifiso Nyakane, says three people have opened cases so far and an investigation is currently under way.

“The Hawks has urged community members to be cautious of a person calling himself Brigadier Modise from the [SAPS] provincial office. He phones people, instructs them to deposit R1 000 to R3 000 in the money market for them to be considered as a new recruit in the SAPS. Community members are urged to report any suspicious caller to the nearest police station or call Captain RK Mokoena on 082 455 6035,” he said.
