Masilonyana Municipality says it was acting in the best interest of the community | News Article

Bloemfontein - The main reason the Masilonyana Municipality applied for an urgent court interdict against the DA was in the best interest of the community.

This is according to municipal spokesperson, Zongezile Ntjwabule. His statement follows after the Bloemfontein High Court had dismissed Masilonyana’s application last week, stating that it was not urgent.

Masilonyana, which includes the towns of Brandfort, Theunissen and Verkeerdevlei, applied for an urgent interdict last Monday, attempting to stop the DA from providing water to residents.

Ntjwabule said the municipality was still committed to ensure that the community was being supplied with portable water.

“Acting in the best interest of the community, the municipality approached the Bloemfontein High Court on an urgent basis for an interim order prohibiting the DA from distributing untreated water to the community of Brandfort. This then meant that the municipality has not lost the case, however, it can approach the court in the same matter through normal application processes,” Ntjwabule said.
