POLICE NOTICE: Park Road police warn residents | News Article

Bloemfontein - Park Road police are warning residents to be careful after a series of robberies that have recently spiked, particularly in the central area of Bloemfontein and surrounding areas.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Bloemfontein warn residents that robbery is a dangerous crime of violence that can threaten people's lives, property, and businesses.

The police would like to encourage homeowners, business owners and residents to call the police if they see anything suspicious in their neighbourhood, be it a suspicious vehicle or people loitering in the area.

Residents are urged to be good neighbours, be observant and report suspicious behavior.

Motorists and pedestrians are also warned to be careful when walking or driving at night to avoid dark and dingy areas.

Pedestrians are advised to walk along busy roads and should be alert when using a cellphone, especially after dark as there is a tendency to rob cellphones from unsuspecting victims.

The police would like to advise the community to keep cellphones secure and out of sight when not in use while walking in the street.

Following incidents of robberies of people while coming from the bank, SAPS would like to alert the public to avoid displaying or carrying large amounts of money in public areas and also be careful when carrying purses or handbags.

Take note of the following safety tips:

  1. Never carry your wallet in your back pocket and be wary of strangers approaching you and pay attention to their faces and general appearances as it will assist the police in drawing a facial identikit, should one fall prey to the robbers;
  2. If confronted by the robbers, cooperate, give them what they ask for. Possessions can be replaced; your life is precious and cannot be replaced;
  3. Do not try to make sudden moves or try to apprehend the criminals yourself, rather concentrate on remembering how the suspects look and call the police immediately.
