DA takes FS Speaker to court─── MARK STEENBOK 16:33 Thu, 28 Jul 2016
Bloemfontein - The DA in the Free State has instructed their legal team to approach the court to force Speaker, Mamiki Qabathe, to arrange a Rules and Orders Committee meeting within 21 days.
DA MPL, Roy Jankielsohn, says such meetings should be held on a regular basis, to discuss important issues relating to the effective functioning of the legislature.
He says Qabathe was formally served with a notice of the impending court action on July 24.
The DA will also request the court to hold Qabathe liable for the cost of the application.
“We have requested the speaker of the legislature on a number of occasions to arrange such meetings. She has refused to do so, and in fact she ignored all our requests. Her unwillingness has compelled us to take legal action against her to ensure she does do her job,” says Jankielsohn.
