Kimberley - Women from the police, South African National Defence Force (SANDF), Traffic, Correctional Services and Home Affairs departments in the Northern Cape are taking part in an officer's parade today.

Police spokesperson, Sergio Kock, says the women in uniform are standing firm in support of all female victims of violent crime and their families. Kock says a build-up programme prior to the parade was held yesterday.

The parade is taking place in Galeshewe this morning.

The build-up event took place in Hulana Park with a prayer service that was held in memory of the five-year-old Keitumetse Magwadibane, who went missing in Galeshewe, and Mitasha Lee, who was allegedly murdered by her husband in Roodepan.

They also prayed for all women, who are victims of violent crimes.

The parade forms part of Women's Month celebrations, says Kock.

Provincial Police Commissioner, Risimati Peter Shivuri, and other government delegates also attended and pledged to combat crime so that all women and other citizens could feel safe.

The parade proceeded through Galeshewe and ended at the Yorkshire Cricket Ground where the follow-up event will take place today.
