Salga embarks on an induction programme for councillors | News Article

Bloemfontein - The South African Local Government Association (Salga) in the Free State has embarked on a Councillor Induction Programme.

The programme, which is carried out nationally, will be conducted across the province over five days. Speaking at a media briefing in Bloemfontein, Salga’s Provincial Executive Officer (PEO), Zanoxolo Futwa, says nine training sites that opened on Monday are spread throughout the 23 local municipalities across the province.

“The last day of the training will be dedicated to an engagement between the newly elected representatives in local government and their political parties. They will have that opportunity, which is a new thing that has been created to provide a platform for that engagement. If a councillor is allocated a responsibility which has a specific role, in terms of the different committees that supports council, they will be able to continue with that throughout our partnership with Cogta, Treasury and other stakeholders.”

Futwa explains that the next cycle of the training will run from 12 to 16 September and each cycle has five days. The first cycle was from 5 to 9 September.
