Guards injured in attempted cash heist in Marikana─── 08:52 Sat, 01 Oct 2016
Rustenburg - Two security guards were wounded when armed men fired a hail of bullets into a cash van in Marikana east of Rustenburg on Friday, North West police said.
Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said gunmen attempted to rob a cash in-transit vehicle that was driving from Rustenburg to Brits.
“The vehicle was allegedly on the road when an unconfirmed number of suspects driving in two vehicles; a blue Range Rover and a white Volkswagen GTI without registration numbers, shot at it and that caused the driver to lose control,” he said.
“According to information, the suspects got out of their cars and fired shots at the G4S vehicle, but fled the scene without taking money. Two security guards who were wounded during the incident, were rushed to hospital for medical treatment. No one has been arrested and investigation continues.”
The police have opened a case of attempted robbery and attempted murder.
