Rustenburg - A toddler, travelling in a hot air balloon that crashed into a tree near Buffelspoort Dam in North West, has been airlifted to a hospital in Johannesburg.
Netcare 911 spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe, says the Netcare2 helicopter dispatched for life threatening emergencies, airlifted a four-year-old girl from the scene.
This comes after the accident between 08:30 and 09:00. More than ten people were on board the air balloon. Mathe says an emergency care practitioner and a critical care assistant are available in the well-equipped helicopter.
The injured girl was flown to a facility catering for children under the age of 16, sustaining serious physical trauma. Mathe did not divulge the extent of the toddler’s injuries for reasons of confidentially.
“We cannot comment on the girl’s injuries. We can only confirm that she sustained serious injuries.”
Mathe says two men also sustained injuries. They were both stabilised on scene by paramedics from Hartebeespoort EMS and other services before they were rushed to a nearby hospital. One of the injured men was in a critical condition.
