Bloemfontein - A human skeleton of an unknown man was discovered lying next to an unused quarry about five kilometers on the outskirts of Bloemfontein in Christo Groenewald Road.

The police request the public's assistance in locating the family of the deceased. The gruesome discovery was made on Monday 24 October at around 08:00.

The remains were found by a construction worker who went to the site to dump rubbish. The skeleton was still dressed in black trousers and a grey shirt. The remains are estimated to be that of a man in his late thirties.

According to the police preliminary investigation on the scene, the deceased is suspected to have died six months ago.

Further investigation will be conducted to determine the identity of the deceased through DNA tests as well as to determine the cause of death.

A case of inquest has been registered for further investigations.

The Bayswater police request anyone with information or any family that has reported a missing person within the past six months, and who has had no success, to contact the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Tumelo Itholeng on 082 301 6171 or 074 021 6329.
