Brits - Two police vehicles and five trucks were set alight and damaged near Brits in the North West yesterday and today after violent acts by members of the community.

Police spokesperson, Sabata Mokgwabone, says members of the Majakaneng community allegedly pelted passing motorists with stones and barricaded the N4 road with burning tyres near the Sun City off-ramp on Wednesday morning.

It is still unclear what sparked the violence. Mokgwabone says four suspects aged between 19 and 27 have subsequently been arrested in connection with the violence.

He adds says the police are monitoring the situation and traffic is flowing. Motorists are urged to exercise caution.

“It is quiet now. The police are currently there to monitor the situation. There have been no incidents since this morning. We have arrested four suspects and they will appear in the Brits Magistrate's Court later this morning on charges of public violence and malicious damage to property. We also appeal to the community to respect the rule of law,” says Mokgwabone.
