De Aar - The murder of three members of the Makaleni family has sent shockwaves through the De Aar community.

This is according to a fellow church member of the deceased, who wished to stay anonymous.

She says the whole De Aar is crying after the murders of Glenwill Makaleni, his wife Gladys, and their 10-year-old-son, Gladwill. They were stabbed to death while sleeping in their home on Saturday morning.

She described Glenwill and Gladys as humble, well-educated and always willing to do their bit at the Methodist church where they attended together.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Northern Cape Department of Education, Geoffrey van der Merwe says the MEC for Education, Martha Bartlett will attend a special memorial service for the family on Tuesday, November 15.

“The Department will have a memorial service for the late Glenwill, Gladys and Gladwill on Tuesday at 12:00 at the St John’s Primary school in De Aar. They worked for the department for a number of years and we deemed it proper to celebrate their lives for the last time,” says Van der Merwe.

The funeral is set to take place on November 19.
