No arrests following cave shooting | News Article

Kestell - No arrests have been made following a shooting incident outside Kestell on a farm early this morning.

According to Free State police spokesperson, Mmako Mophiring, the attempted murder investigation and search for the unknown number of suspects, believed to be from Lesotho, is continuing. This follows after shots were fired at police officers from a cave in a mountainous area.

A farmer summoned the police to his farm at about 01:00 when he saw flames in the cave and became suspicious.

Mophiring says it is believed the assailants were planning to steal cattle, as a bag with pliers, presumably used for the cutting of livestock fences, was found inside the cave.

Police are still requesting anyone with information to contact their nearest police station.
