Lack of consequences leading to bad NW audit outcomes – expert─── DANE BEISHEIM 17:13 Thu, 17 Nov 2016

Potchefstroom - A lack of consequence is one of the primary drivers of bad audit outcomes in the North West province.
This is according to political commentator, Theo Venter.
His comment follows the release of the Consolidated Auditor General Report for the 2015/2016 financial year, which was tabled in parliament yesterday. Venter says despite several departmental interventions over the years, audit outcomes for North West remain unsatisfactory.
He adds this is largely due to the fact that, under President Jacob Zuma's administration, there does not seem to be a high value on efficiency.
“The focus is on loyalty. So if the focus is, politically speaking, on loyalty, then it is very difficult to have consequences of a significant nature. Because, what if one of your loyalist supporters is not looking carefully at his budget or is not spending very frugally? That is where the problem lies – the problem is political,” Venter adds.
