Couple in court after drugs found hidden in baby’s pants | News Article

Thaba Nchu - A mother from Thaba Nchu who allegedly hid Mandrax tablets between her seven-month-old baby girl’s nappy and corduroy pants has been released on R3 000 bail.

Police spokesperson, Martin Xuma, says 31-year-old Thembikile Saki briefly appeared in the local Magistrate’s Court yesterday in connection with dealing in drugs. Her boyfriend, Fikile Olifant, who was also arrested at their house, remains in custody. Two Mandrax tablets were found in his possession. The couple will be back in court on Thursday.

A total of 57 tablets, to the value of R3 500, were confiscated after police received information about irregularities at a house in Selosesha Zone 4 on Saturday.

Upon their arrival, Olifant turned up outside. He swore at officers. Saki allowed them in. A 12-year-old girl was inside holding a baby. Xuma says a police officer told the girl to fetch a blanket for the baby as it was chilly. The police officer held the baby and felt something on the child’s belly. This is when the drugs were discovered.

Olifant, who is the baby’s father, also faces charges of crimen injuria and obstructing the ends of justice.
