Murdered Smithfield GP's attackers found guilty─── ANDRE GROBLER 17:05 Thu, 08 Dec 2016
Bethulie - The two accused in the murder of well-known Smithfield GP, Bennie Cilliers, have been found guilty in the Bethulie Circuit Court.
Acting Judge Liza Tsatsi also found Thabang Jordaan and David Zamayo guilty on the two additional charges of attempted murder and housebreaking and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
Jordaan and Zamayo stood accused of the attempted murder of Cilliers' wife Cecilia' and the robbery at their farm house.
The incident happened in January this year on their farm, Gouda, near Rouxville.
The two men broke into the farm house of the sleeping couple and attacked them with a heavy icon bar and a plastic fencing pole. Cilliers did not survive the attack and died due to head injuries sustained during the attack. Cecilia spent a long period in ICU, following the attack.
The court started with sentencing proceedings immediately after judgment was delivered.
