According to North West police spokesperson, Sabata Mokgwabone, the suspect and the woman allegedly met for drinks. When she asked the man to take her home, he allegedly refused, whereafter the alleged incident occurred. Mokgwabone says the police have launched a search for the other suspect. 

"According to information given, the suspect and the woman met on the 31st of December, where they apparently exchanged contact numbers on condition that they will meet in the evening for drinks. They did meet, however, in the morning when the woman was supposed to be taken home, she was allegedly refused to go home. The suspect took her to his place where he and his friend repeatedly raped the woman."

The woman's friend, who was continually communicating with her, contacted the police when the victim no longer responded to her efforts to communicate. Upon alerting the police, a manhunt was launched. When police arrived at the suspect's home, he fled but was arrested after an extensive search in the area.
