One NW municipality pays Eskom | News Article

Potchefstroom - Mamusa Municipality in Schweizer-Reneke, North West, has made its payment to Eskom and provided a payback plan to the energy supplier.

The two other municipalities which were given until today to settle their debt, namely Ventersdorp and Naledi, seated in Vryburg, failed to do this. Both municipalities’ power was cut from 6:00 until 8:00 this morning and barring Eskom receiving their payments before 17:00, will have it interrupted again from 17:00 for another two and a half hours.

Eskom spokesperson, Kulu Phasiwe, says four municipalities face deadlines on Wednesday.

“[These are] Lekwa-Teemane, Maquassi Hills, Madibeng, and Kgetlengrivier. We have given them until the 18th of this month to get their act together and make the payment or come up with a plan of how they’re going to pay. If they fail, they will have the same fate as Naledi and Ventersdorp,” Phasiwe added.
