Kroonstad - A group of between eight and ten robbers armed with knives, who assaulted two farm workers on a farm in the Heuningspruit area near Kroonstad on Saturday night, are still on the run.
Free State police spokesperson, Sinah Mpkane, says two Zimbabwean nationals working on the farm were overpowered in their houses just before midnight. Their attackers demanded the keys to the main house. She says the owner of the farm does not permanently stay on his farm. He is from Gauteng and did not go to the farm this weekend. The suspects broke a window to the main house after the keys were not handed to them.
A solar panel, a battery, electric appliances and clothes were stolen before the group fled the scene. The stolen items were loaded into a car.
Mpkane says the victims were tied-up with ropes. They could not see what type of getaway car was used. According to her the estimated value of the stolen property is about R150 000. The victims did not sustain stab wounds. They were hit and slapped by the robbers.
