More than R26 million land compensation for NW community─── 15:23 Tue, 14 Mar 2017
Delareyville - Land claim beneficiaries in the community of Delareyville in North West are to receive more than R26 million compensation vouchers for their land today.
According to the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform's Lengane Bogatsu, 121 households are to benefit from these vouchers. He says this follows a successful land claim that began in 2008 by the community that was forcefully removed from their land.
“Each household is going to get R228 000 as compensation as their land is not restorable because of developments. He says the total number of affected households was 384 which have been compensated in different phases, of which the last group will be compensated in the final phase of the next financial year.
He says the people who are considered as beneficiaries are those that meet the requirements of section 2 of the Restitution of Land Rights Act, 1994 (Act No. 22 of 1994), as amended.
