DA agreed tribunal selection must not go ahead – Tlokwe mayor | News Article

Potchefstroom - The DA in North West agreed with the Tlokwe City Council that there were substantive reasons why the selection of members for the Spatial Planning and Land Management Act (SPLUMA) tribunal cannot proceed.

This is according to acting Tlokwe Mayor, Kelvin Johnson, and follows after the DA released a statement bemoaning the delay in new developments and rezoning in Tlokwe since 2015. Johnson goes on to say that the selection process has been delayed due to several factors, including the omission of the relevant MMC’s signature on the submission, and the fact that candidates’ curriculum vitaes and other info also need to be submitted. Johnson adds the DA agreed that these requirements were not met, hence the delay.

“There was no opposition to returning the submission, so we agreed that we would complete it within a specific time – not to disadvantage anyone. We are in consultation with the MEC responsible for local government for the Mayor to use his executive powers to look at applications. I do not know where they come with this sudden interest in the SPLUMA submission, but we need to do things correctly and they need to be honest with you,” Johnson added.
