Northern Cape’s state of healthcare facilities under spotlight─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 11:46 Tue, 06 Feb 2018
The state of healthcare facilities in the Northern Cape will once again come under the spotlight today when parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Health visits the Provincial Psychiatric Hospital.
This comes soon after a delegation of the National Council of Province (NCOP) gave the Provincial Health Department a stern warning regarding the incomplete Northern Cape Psychiatric Hospital and poor service delivery at some of its public healthcare facilities.
The committee is expected to be briefed on the progress and challenges faced in relation to the completion of the infamous psychiatric hospital, which has now been under construction for more than a decade. The cost of the hospital has since ballooned to over R2 million since its construction started in 2006.
Departmental spokesperson, Lebohang Majaha, previously told OFM News the hospital is near completion and might be in operation this year.
