Zuma began his speech by commemorating the release of Nelson Mandela from prison, and the day District Six was declared a whites only area.

But, as he started speaking, he was surprisingly disrupted by Cope leader Mosiuoa Lekota.

Lekota arose on a point of order and said Zuma admitted to the nation in the Constitutional Court that he had broken his oath of office and was thus no longer fit to lead the people.

He was asked to leave the chamber after he continuously refused to sit down. After initially refusing, he left and was followed by his MPs.

After Zuma resumed his speech, EFF MP's continuously interrupted him. After several exchanges between MPs and Mbete, EFF leader Julius Malema got frustrated and started chanting "Zupta must fall". Zupta is the name used to describe the President's relationship with the Gupta family.

Shortly thereafter, EFF MPs voluntarily left the chamber and Zuma continued with his speech.
