Pretoria - The Democratic Alliance (DA) will oppose any attempt by government to appeal the court’s finding that it acted unconstitutionally when it gave notice to the United Nations that it would withdraw from the International Criminal Court (ICC).
This after the Pretoria High Court yesterday ruled that government's decision was unconstitutional and thus invalid.
The DA brought the application in December following government’s decision to withdraw from the Rome Statute, following a furore over Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir. A court had ruled that South Africa was obliged to arrest al-Bashir when he attended the African Union summit in Johannesburg.
