South African heavyweight boxer, Francois "The White Buffalo" Botha, secured a victory in a split decision against Germany's Axel Schulz to win the International Boxing Federation World (IBF) Heavyweight Championship on 9 December 1995.

Previous to the fight, the representatives of the two boxers, the president of IBF/USBA and the representative of the German Boxing Federation, had signed a document entitled "Rules for IBF/USBA & Intercontinental Championship Bouts" ("Bout Rules"), which included an anti doping rule.

Subsequent to Botha's victory, his urine specimen was sent to a German laboratory where it tested positive for anabolic steroids.

During his professional boxing career he fought a total of 63 fights with 48 wins, 29 of them coming via knockout.

Another famous fight Botha has been involved was up against All Blacks centre, Sonny Bill Williams in 2013.
