Agri NC Congress to help farmers position themselves─── SABRINA DEAN 16:00 Fri, 19 Aug 2016
Bloemfontein - Huge levels of uncertainty in the political and economic environment, coupled with challenges ranging from the drought to social welfare issues, mean that farmers often don’t know how to position themselves to continue sustainably.
These are some of the issues being addressed during Agri Northern Cape’s annual congress in Kimberley on August 24 and 25. President Henk van Wyk says they are presenting their annual Congress under the theme "Agriculture – our future too".
“What must your planning look like going forward? Can you purchase land, what will the Government policy be on 50/50?
“Will it only be on a voluntary basis as we suggested or will there be a law that says I may not have more than 5000 hectares and I will then also have to give half of that to my employees. All of those things need to be put to bed.”
A contingent of top officials from Agri SA, including Executive Director, Omri van Zyl, deputy executive director, Christo van der Rheede, and President Johannes Moller, as well as Grain SA CEO Jannie de Villiers, are among the speakers on the programme.
