Algae study reveals huge cost burden for farmers─── SABRINA DEAN 09:29 Tue, 19 Jul 2016
OFM News' agri editor, Sabrina Dean, speaks to a chief scientist at the CSIR, Professor Paul Oberholzer, about a study done into algae.
Oberholzer explains that farmers in the study area along the Dwars River in the Western Cape are spending hundreds of thousands of Rands to get rid of algae that blocks and clogs their irrigation systems.
Oberholzer also speaks about plans to try and develop a pollution permit system so that farmers who are not polluting, for example, could sell their phosphate credits to farmers who are unable to cut back on pollutants.
