Day two of this years’ second Grand Slam, the French Open being played at Roland Garros in Paris, was also interrupted by rain.
In the woman’s singles, the second seed Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland beat Serbia's Bojana Jovanovski 6-0, 6-2 to advance to the next round.
She will be joined in the second round by the Romanian pocket-rocket, Simona Halep, who needed just 43 minutes to advance.
The sixth-seeded Halep beat Japan’s Nao Hinbo 6-2, 6-0, while Spain’s Garbine Magaruza had to come from behind to beat Slovakia's Anna Karolina Schmiedlova 3-6, 6-3 and 6-3.
In the men’s singles Japan’s Kei Nishikori made light work of defeating Italy’s Simone Bolelli 6-1, 7-5 and 6-3.
The defending men’s champion, Stanislas Wawrinka, survived a huge scare to beat the Czech Republics’ Lukas Rosol with 4-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 and 6-4.
Novak Djokovic faces Chinese Taipai’s Yen-Hsun Lu today while the King of Clay, Rafael Nadal, takes on Australia’s Sam Groth.
