The Free State Cricket Union once again paid tribute to all our local cricketers ‘Stars of Tomorrow’ with our annual Awards Ceremony that was held at Protea Hotel Central Bloemfontein last night. At this glamorous affair we recognize hard work and dedication of individuals that drive the passion for cricket.
 
The vision of Free State Cricket Union is to be the leading role-player in South African Cricket by promoting, enhancing and developing cricket as the peoples game in the Free State in a responsible and financially viable manner by optimizing all our resources. The evening was a celebration to honour our players, coaches, administrators for growing the FSCU vision.
 
Congratulations go out to all the award winners. Your successes are well deserved and will serve as an inspiration to those who will follow you in the years ahead. Free State Cricket Union award winners for Season 2013/2014 are:
 
 
Mini Cricket Administrator of the Year 
 
Chairperson of Thaba Nchu Region. Overseeing 16 Schools.  Region also nominated to host Protea’s vs. KFC Mini Cricket.
 
Seipati Oganne
 
Under 13 Player of the Year 
 
Wicket Keeper. Batsman scored 162 runs with highest score of 77.Captain of Grey College U/14 A team.
 
Garnet Tarr
 
Under 15 Player of the Year
 
Excelled at National U/15 week. Scored the most runs for FS U/15 team and 2nd most runs at the week. Scored 225 in 4 innings at average of 56, highest score at the week was 123.
 
Christopher Schreuder
 
Under 17 Player of the Year
 
Represented FS U/17, U/19 and Knights Cubs teams. Leading wicket taker for FS U/17, took 3rd most wickets at National week – 16 wickets economy rate 3,0. Invited to National U/17 camp. Did well at Coca-Cola Khaya Majola week and Cubs week.
 
Sean Whitehead
 
Under 17 Rural Cricket Player of the Year
 
Averaged 38 at U/17 RC Week. Selected for SA U/17 Rural Cricket Team at end of Week.
 
Phillip Maré
 
Under 19 Player of the Year
 
Captained FS U/19 and Knights Cubs team. Also captained St Andrews team to National School T20 competition. Selected for SA U/19 team, played England and toured India for Quadrangular tournament.
 
Sinebhongo Ntshona
 
Under 19 Girls Player of the Year
 
CSA Tournament held she hit 248 runs, average of 62. Took 16 wickets and her personal best 8/13 after 16 overs. Was included in the SA U/19 team at age 16.
 
Izel Cilliers
 
LSEN Player of the Year
 
All rounder that produced best cricket for FS LSEN at SA Championship. Batting average of 27 for 4 games played. Took 6 wickets during Championship.
 
Jean-Pierre Koekemoer
 
Best Performing Team of the Year
 
Won USSA B section. Moved to USSA B section. Won all except 1 league match for season. FS Club Champs representative. Represented 3 Senior Provincial players this season.

Best Performing Centre of Excellence of the Year
 
Best centre for producing more players for all different age groups from U/11 to U/19 respectively to represent FS.

Left-arm fast bowler with a record of 5 wickets in 1 game. Top batsman with best 120 not out. Selected twice in a shadow team that represented SA.

Rural Cricketer of the Year
 
Played 12 games in 3 leagues. 627 runs average of 57.1, 1*100 and 5*50 highest score of 143. 85.5 overs bowled, 342 runs and 20 wickets at 3.98 / over and strike rate of 17.1 and best bowling of 8-15-4. 
 
Lucas Boucher
 
Scorer of the Year
 
Level B Scorer. Scored her 1st Provincial and Knights games for this season. Scored U/13 national tournament and provincial matches on CricInfo.
 
Mariette Benade
 
Umpire Newcomer of the Year
 
Started umpiring in 2013/2014 at Eastern FS. Average for the year 99.33%. Commute weekly at least 200km to umpire on a Saturday. Remarkable commitment.

Melissa Lene Loftus
 
Senior Provincial Team Rookie of the Year
 
Part of SA School’s team and 2010 SA Under 19 World Cup team. In 3-Day competition scored 2 half centuries. With highest score of 52 and best bowl figures of 2 wickets for only 13 runs.  
 
Bokang Mosena
 
Senior Provincial Team Most Improved Player of the Year
 
Part of SA School’s team and 2010 SA Under 19 World Cup. CSA 3-Day competition scored 487 runs average of just over 30. Scoring 3 50’s highest score 81. CSA 1-Day competition scored 173 runs 5 knocks, top score 61 average 34.6. 
 
Simon Khomari
 
Senior Provincial Team Player of the Year 
 
CSA 3-Day competition in only 4 matches, average 16,38 economy rate 2,82. 5 wickets in an innings on 2 occasions. Best bowling figures 5 for only 31 runs. CSA 1-Day competition, taken 12 wickets in only 4 matches, average of 10,96 economy rate 3,96. Remarkable 6 wickets for only 33 runs. Currently regular member of Knights team.

Has been enthusiastic in promoting, bringing different communities together and reviving cricket in Mangaung as a whole. He approached different sponsors and stakeholders to come up with Tournaments and Festivals that were successful. He is now a member of the Mangaung Sports Council representing cricket. He was part of a team that negotiated with the municipality for cricket playing facility in Mangaung.
