Children can solve this brain teaser very quickly – but adults seem to really struggle.

A puzzle usually given to children, is confusing a lot of people online.

Put simply – which direction is this yellow bus travelling?

At first the question may seem totally impossible, with the bus not having a clear front or back.

But there is actually a proper answer and the clue is in the positioning of the doors.

They are not visible in the image so the bus, if driving in the UK, must be driving from left to right.

In the United States, the bus would be travelling towards the left as the doors would be positioned on the alternative side.

The puzzle appeared in National Geographic in their Brain Games TV Series – with the company claiming 80 per cent of children under 10 asked, got the answer instantly.

Adults meanwhile took a lot longer or were unable to guess the answer at all.

University College of London research suggests this is because children and adults make judgements differently.

Children use the first visual clue that pops into their head – meaning they often get things wrong but answer faster, while adults opt for different kinds of visual information as well as sensory clues.
