Knights claim a bonus point win against the Warriors | News Article

The Chevrolet Knights burst out of the blocks on day one of the RAM SLAM T20 Challenge as they recorded a thumping bonus-point victory over the Chevrolet Warriors at Bidvest Wanderers in the first game of Sunday’s triple-header.

Despite losing the toss and being asked to bat first, the Knights dominated the game from start to finish, amassing 205 for five and then bowling the Warriors out for 131 to win by 74 runs.

Without the injured Rusty Theron, the Warriors were unable to contain the Knights, who enjoyed two powerful surges during their innings.

First Rudi Second (32) and Gerhardt Abrahams (48) put on 78 for the first wicket in nine overs; then, after three wickets had fallen in 11 balls, Diego Rosier and Obus Pienaar masterminded the late charge.

Playing just his second franchise game of the season, 20-year-old Rosier hammered an unbeaten 55 from just 27 balls, while Pienaar struck three sixes in an unbeaten 35 from 10 balls.

That allowed the Knights to take 84 from the final five overs and create a level of scoreboard pressure that overwhelmed the Warriors - particularly after they lost two key wickets in the first 10 balls, with in-form batsmen Jon-Jon Smuts and Colin Ingram both falling.

Overseas signing Craig Kieswetter battled to keep the Warriors in the game with his 51, but only three other batsmen made double figures as Dillon du Preez struck regularly on his way to figures of 4 for 25.

The Warriors were eventually bowled out in 18.5 overs, falling well short of the 164 they needed to score to deny the Knights a bonus point.
