De Villiers rewrites the history books─── 10:42 Mon, 19 Jan 2015
South African One-Day International captain, AB de Villiers, blasted his way to the fastest ODI century as he scored his 19th ton off just 31 balls against the West Indies in Johannesburg.
The batsman came to the crease with the score on 271 for one during the second ODI after Hashim Amla and Rilee Rossouw each score a ton to setup a solid foundation for De Villiers to launch from.
De Villiers scored 149 off 44 deliveries, falling one short of what would have been the fastest 150 in cricket history as South Africa posted 439 for 2.
Amla notched his highest ODI score with an unbeaten knock of 153, while Rossouw’s maiden century brought him 128 runs.
With Chris Gayle being dismissed for 19 runs, the Windies were never going to reach the mammoth score and they were restricted to 291 for 7 after 50 overs, to give South Africa a 148-run win.
Following the match, De Villiers credited Amla and Rossouw for a solid foundation.
The third ODI with be played at Buffalo Park in East London on Wednesday.
